Muhammed Ali refutes a Coptic Christian's claim that Muslims brutally conquered Egypt by presenting evidence from Coptic historical sources themselves. He demonstrates that before the Islamic conquest, Roman Christians under Cyrus were severely persecuting Coptic Christians, destroying churches and killing their leaders. When Amr ibn al-As arrived, he liberated the Copts, granted them religious freedom, gave money to rebuild churches, and allowed their pope to return—all documented in the Coptic Book of Saints (Sanxarium). Muhammed argues that ancient churches and monasteries still stand in Egypt today, and that violence only emerged later during the Crusades when local Christians collaborated with Crusaders against Muslims.
