In the summer of 1975, Linda Skvarna set off on a solo road trip across the United States with her dog Coco Gin. Her last stop of the trip was the Grand Canyon, and after seeing an enticing waterfall on a post card, she decided that would be her destination. Linda set off knowing nothing of the intensity or length of the hike, and thanks to poorly maintained trail signs, she was soon hopelessly lost in the never ending maze with no food or water. 

On Halloween 1974, five children were given Pixy Stix laced with potassium cyanide. After consuming the candy that night, Timothy O'Bryan was killed in only a matter of minutes. The man behind this evil became known as the real life Candyman. 

In Spring of 1961, Alcatraz inmates Frank Morris, Alan Clayton West, and brothers, John and Clarence Anglin, began planning what would be one of the most famous prison escapes of all time. After a full year of preparation and a lot of teamwork, these men got away with some pretty ridiculous feats. Three of the four men successfully got away, and to this day have never been found.

In Newburgh, New York, cousins JJ and Pappito were having fun with their friend Cathy in the snow the day before Thanksgiving. There was a snowbank that was 8 feet tall in a nearby parking lot, and a snow fort was being built. As you might imagine, it was lit. That was until their parents noticed that JJ and Pappito had not come home before their curfew. Mild concern turned into an intense panic as the parents realized that the kids were nowhere to be found. It was especially concerning because Newburgh had one of the highest rates of crime in New York state, and a five year old had turned up dead in a suitcase not long ago. The police were called and the K9 unit shortly after to turn the neighborhood upside down to find JJ and Pappito.

In a small rural community in Illinois, Julie Rae and her son Joel were sleeping in their home when Julie was awoken by a scream. She dashed out of bed to find an intruder wearing a ski mask. Jim Holly and Jens Lundy wanted to get closer to both of their fathers, and decided to plan a joint fishing trip to Mexico.  However, instead of taking a commercial flight, Jim would fly all of them down in his own plane. The flight went well until they got over the Gulf of Mexico, where there was an unexpected storm system. Jim decided to fly through it, thinking it was small enough to power through., but the storm never let up. Jim pulled the plane up to get above the storm, and just a few moments after breaking free, the plane's engine failed. Jim and Jens were about to have a bonding experience with their fathers in a way they never expected.

Chaos ensues when the I35W bridge in Minneapolis collapses during rush hour. Around a hundred cars found themselves immediately in free fall, along with the construction workers on site. In the late 90s, Lindsay Tornambe's family moved to Minnesota to be on a farm that was owned and run by the River Road Fellowship. The group was an extreme religious cult led by Victor Barnard, who had declared himself to be Jesus in the flesh. Alistair Gelatley and Arthur Taylor were both experienced hunters in the African Bush and would regularly take trips onto the beautiful but dangerous Zambezi River.  On the morning of May 31st 1921, 19-year-old Dick Rowland, a Black shoeshiner, was accused of assaulting Sarah Page, the 17-year-old white elevator operator of the Drexel Building. After being arrested, a white mob formed outside of the county courthouse, where he was being held, with the intention of taking Rowland out and murdering him. The black citizens of Tulsa knew that Rowland was innocent and that they needed to do something in order to keep him alive. But when the mixture of the angry white men, combined with the concerned black men, violence broke out.  Over 18 hours a white mob attacked residents, homes and businesses in the predominantly black Greenwood neighborhood of Tulsa, Oklahoma, destroying everything in their path.

On August 23rd 1973, Jan Erik Olsson broke into a Kreditbanken branch in Stockholm Sweden. A complete media frenzy broke out once shots were fired and Jan took 3 hostages inside the bank.  He demanded millions of kroner, a get away car, and to have his friend who was still in prison, be brought to the bank to assist him. All at once, and to the world's surprise, the hostages turned on police, siding with their captors instead. Lincoln Hall was a mountaineer from a very young age, and had an intense passion for getting to summit Mount Everest. After a first failed attempt, Lincoln was given one last opportunity 22 years later at the age of 50.  He knew he had to rely on mental strength to conquer Everest in this last attempt, however making it to the top is only half the battle.  After getting to the summit, Lincoln experienced a severe form of altitude sickness while still very close to the top, which caused him to pass out in the snow and fall into a comatose state. Believing Lincoln was dead, his two guides had to make the difficult decision to leave him on the mountain, taking all of his belongings with them to give back to Lincoln's loved ones. After waking up a few hours later, the very confused Lincoln, needed to keep himself alive at the top of Mount Everest with no gear, food, water, or oxygen.

In 2018, hip hop artist Jet McKee broke into the home of Blake Davis and Hannah Quinn, heavily armed, high on crystal meth, and hellbent on robbing the couple. In a panicked state and after a violent attack, Blake Davis grabbed a decorative samurai sword he had in the room to protect both Hannah and himself. Davis said he had no choice when he used the sword, and if he hadn't McKee would've killed Hannah. But instead of waiting for police, the couple fled the scene, and what should have been an act of self defense turned into a murder investigation.

On December 11th 1994, highly skilled bomb maker and terrorist, Ramzi Yousef boarded Philippine Airlines flight 434 with service to Tokyo with intent to kill everyone on board. He had created a highly lethal liquid explosive that he was able to get through security by concealing it in a saline solution bottle. After assembling the bomb in the bathroom on board the aircraft, he walked back to his seat and planted it in the lifejacket pocket under his seat. After the plane landed in Cebu, he departed as 256 new passengers got on board for what would turn into a terrifying crime scene.

Sandra and Jerome Herold purchased Travis the chimpanzee at only three weeks old to have him as a pet, however he quickly became more like a son, as well as a staple in their town. Although Travis acted out at times, the community believed he wasn't a danger to those around him. Long time friend and employee, Charla Nash, would regularly drop into the Herold home to feed Travis. So in February of 2009, when Travis began acting out, Sandra called Charla for help, hoping a familiar face wouldn't set him off, however she was very wrong. Travis' attack on Charla ended in irreversible damage and tragedy all around.

For Colleen Stan the decision to hitchhike to southern California to surprise a friend for her birthday proved to be a fateful one. In May of 1977, Colleen Stan got into the car of Cameron and Janice Hooker for an uneventful ride, however what followed was years of torture. Her captor was unfortunately crafty, and over the next seven years she spent the majority of her time in a number of different confined boxes he designed. February 2nd 2001 started out as any other day for the principal of Hopewell-Winterstown Elementary School. As Norina Bentzel got prepared to leave her office to settle a group of rowdy children in the cafeteria, she noticed a man unsuccessfully attempting to enter the building through a locked door. Thinking this man was a grandparent of one of her students, she set off to help him, but when he got inside her whole world turned upside down as she had to not only fight for her own life, but for the lives of the 350 children in her school.
