In this Friday khutbah given recently at the Islamic Association of Fort Worth in Watauga, Texas, Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan unpacks the concept of fusuq by highlighting ayat from Surah Al-Baqarah. We learn that a fasiq is one who makes a mockery of Allah's commands, picking and choosing which parts of Islam they want to follow. Furthermore, Ustadh Nouman uses the example of family bonds and highlights how a fasiq breaks family ties. He reminds us that our families, often our greatest test, aren’t chosen by us but are part of Allah’s design. Drawing on vivid examples, Ustadh Nouman highlights how cutting off relatives directly clashes with Allah’s command to maintain these bonds. He also warns against compartmentalizing Islam, stressing that we can’t call out injustice in the world while neglecting justice at home.
