Deb Haaland on 'A Voice Like Mine' and her candidacy for governor of New Mexico

8 min23 juli 2026
Deb Haaland’s ancestors, who were Pueblo Indians, were the first inhabitants of New Mexico – and she’s had a number of firsts herself. In 2018 she was one of the first two Native women elected to Congress, and then in 2021 she became the first Native American named as a cabinet secretary. Now, she’s running for governor of New Mexico. In today’s episode, she talks with Morning Edition’s A Martínez about her new memoir A Voice Like Mine, her candidacy for governor and how federal policy on natural resources has shifted under the Trump administration.
