Ep. 159 - Elliot Sweeney on writing hard-boiled crime and the assistance writing courses can give new writers

Elliot Sweeney works as a community psychiatric nurse but has recently released his debut crime novel, The Next To Die, a hard-boiled crime thriller narrated by misanthropic ex-copper turned PI, Dylan Kasper.

We had a really interesting chat with Elliot. learning about how he moved from writing shorts to having his full-time debut published, and how the Curtis Brown helped with that. We also talked about opportunities for writers from more diverse and underprivileged backgrounds, and discussed what the term "noir" really means.
