VINYL RELICS | 1973’s Home Is Where I Belong: Quicksand’s Lost Welsh Progressive Rock Treasure

EPYSODE 93: Home Is Where I Belong by Quicksand.

Guests: Quicksand band members Jimmy Davies and Anthony Stone.

Additional commentary by The Psychedelic Wizard, Uncle Herff.

Here we shine a light on Home Is Where I Belong, the remarkable and long-overlooked 1973 album by Welsh progressive rock band Quicksand. Blending soaring harmonies, melodic songwriting, intricate musicianship, and touches of folk, hard rock, and progressive ambition, the album carved out a unique place in the early ’70s musical landscape. Despite its strengths, Quicksand’s lone release slipped through the cracks, eventually becoming a sought-after cult favourite among collectors and progressive rock fans. In this epysode, we explore the band’s origins in Wales, the album’s standout moments, and why Home Is Where I Belong deserves far greater recognition among classic progressive rock albums. Best of all, this epysode features exclusive commentary from band members Jimmy Davies and Anthony Stone, sharing firsthand memories and the story behind one of Wales’ great hidden rock treasures.

I hope you dig Home Is Where I Belong as much as I do.
