This paper discusses the current state and challenges of microbiome research in clinical medicine. Despite the enormous potential of the microbiome in diagnosis and treatment, its widespread adoption in clinical practice still faces obstacles, for example, fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) has been approved for Clostridioides difficile infection, but remains at the research stage for other indications. The article emphasizes the importance of standardizing research methods, improving clinical trial design, and strengthening communication between microbiome researchers and clinicians in order to more effectively translate microbiome science into clinical applications.
