2015 was the peak of what is now known as the ‘pug boom’. An era where these distinctive little dogs became a prominent part of popular culture. causing ownership numbers to soar.
But behind their adorable appearance lies a troubling reality. The breed’s extreme physical features can leave them vulnerable to a range of serious health problems, including breathing difficulties, eye conditions, and skin issues.
The ‘pug boom’ raised serious questions around pedigree breeding, responsible ownership, and how we can protect the health of dogs… not only today, but for generations to come.
Today, I’m joined by Dr Sean McCormack, an experienced animal welfare advocate, author, and registered veterinary surgeon, who is head vet at dog food brand Tails. Together, we’ll explore the challenges facing pedigree breeds, the role popular culture plays in shaping our choices, and what we can do to build a healthier future for the dogs we love.
