Ragnar's Other Sons: The Historical Halfdan and Ubba
Om avsnittet
We all know Ragnar's saga sons — Björn Ironside, Ívarr the Boneless, Sigurd Snake-in-the-Eye — but what about Halfdan and Ubba? In this episode of Fexingo History, Lucas and Luna sift through the Frankish Annals, the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle, and the Fragmentary Annals of Ireland to piece together the lives of two of Ragnar's most elusive sons. Halfdan Ragnarsson, who may have led the Great Heathen Army alongside Ívarr, disappears from the record after dividing Northumbria — possibly to die in Ireland or to rule in Dublin. Ubba, the shadowy 'Ubbe' of the chronicles, turns up in Devon at the Battle of Cynuit, where he is killed by Odda's men, his raven banner seized. We'll explore how these two figures, so prominent in the invasion of 865, fade from history, leaving only fragments and guesswork.
