A Sukkot Lesson From a Blackout Next Door

The power went out next door and stayed out for three days. My husband came home the minute it was safe to drive, found an extra-long extension cord, and ran it from our back door into our neighbors' house so their food wouldn't spoil. Nobody asked him to.

Later I told a friend about it. She isn't Jewish, and she said something I didn't expect. From everything you have taught me about Judaism, isn't that the whole point? Sharing your power and your light.

I burst into tears because she was right.
