Makeup & Hair Designer: Rebecca Buratto

In this episode, Christina sits down with makeup and hair designer Rebecca Buratto.

Rebecca grew up in Adelaide, Australia planning to become a sound engineer. Then she watched Lord of the Rings (specifically the Orcs) and decided she wanted to make people look ugly for a living instead. She studied media makeup, landed her first TV job on a bizarre Australian comedy about Hitler's dinosaur army, and eventually met two young filmmakers named Danny and Michael Philippou. She spent the early part of her career making low-budget YouTube videos with them in their dad's backyard. Then came Talk to Me. Then Bring Her Back. Then Leviticus.

Across the conversation, she shares what it takes to design horror looks that live or die on the details, the two-day-shoot naked slimy hellscape sequence from Talk to Me that made it into the final cut for 0.2 seconds, why Jonah Wren Phillips has been part of her career since he was nine years old, and the one piece of advice she gives every aspiring makeup artist.
