The Case for 2Q Earnings Beats

Nick Raich and Sheraz Mian set out expectations for the 2Q earnings season. Sheraz notes that the start of the quarter coincided with the “punitive level of tariffs,” creating uncertainty, but says estimates stabilized in May and June. “The picture is a lot better than the growth rates would suggest,” he argues. Nick says a lot of market participants don’t believe Trump will follow through with his tariff threats, saying “bluster has lost impact.”
