Lyrics Below
I wrote “Give Me Eyes to See” in the tradition of a simple folk song I wrote this song -we sang it my church it was written as a prayer to sing- a prayer with a melody, or as Teresa de Avila said, "singing is praying twice!"—direct, repetitive, and easy to sing—then expanded it with Mozart-style Classical orchestration.
At its heart, the song is a prayer for spiritual clarity, obedience, and a heart surrendered to God. The repeated Hallelujahs form a simple call and response, leading into the central prayer: “Give me eyes to see, give me ears to hear, I want to do Your will.”
As the song unfolds, the words turn toward praise of Jesus and the holiness of the Lord, while the orchestration grows around the simple folk foundation with classical guitar, flute, strings, woodwinds, horns, piano, timpani, counterpoint, ornamentation, and fully developed orchestral passages.
