Dimitar Berbatov: Why I Chose Man United Over Man City! | Stick to United EP 8

Stick to United with Wayne Rooney is back for episode seven, and this week Dimitar Berbatov joins Wayne and Mark Goldbridge! 👹

Manchester United legend Berbatov sits down with his former teammate to look back on their time together at Old Trafford, brought to you by Disney+.

Wayne reveals just how excited he was when United signed Berbatov, while the pair remember competing alongside Cristiano Ronaldo and Carlos Tevez in one of the most exciting forward lines in the club’s history.

Berbatov takes us inside his dramatic deadline-day move from Tottenham, revealing why the transfer became a “nightmare”, how Manchester City tried to sign him at the last minute and why he even gave up part of his salary to complete his dream move to United.

The pair also revisit the 2011 Champions League final, with Berbatov reflecting on the pain of being left out of the squad and Wayne revealing the shock among the United players when they discovered he wasn’t involved. Plus, Berba reacts to Rooney asking to leave the club in 2010 and explains why his response was simply: “No problem, I’ll score the goals.”

Elsewhere, Berbatov discusses the art of the first touch, why “football is a simple game for smart people”, the problems facing the current Manchester United side and his thoughts on former teammate Michael Carrick as manager. With the honeymoon period over, can Carrick bring the good times back to Old Trafford?
