The Modern Church vs Biblical Christianity | Zack Killey

2 tim 27 min19 augusti 2026
What does Biblical Christianity look like when you strip away modern church culture, institutional expectations, and the systems Christians have inherited? In this special Straight Bible conversation, Zack Killey of The Berean Files joins the discussion for a wide-ranging episode covering his testimony, the modern American church, spiritual warfare, prayer, supernatural experiences, ministry, discipleship, and the Sermon on the Mount. The episode begins as part of the ongoing Matthew 6 study, with Matthew 6:19–24—including treasures, the eye, and the larger “evil eye” discussion—serving as part of the Biblical backdrop. But the conversation quickly expands as Zack shares his personal journey: growing up in church, falling away during his younger years, playing in a rock band, and eventually experiencing a dramatic turning point that pushed him toward telling people about Jesus. He also recounts a disturbing experience involving Tiamat and discusses other supernatural events connected to his family history. From there, the conversation examines the structure of the modern church. Should Christianity revolve around Sunday services, buildings, programs, professional pastors, and institutional systems? Or should discipleship begin in the home and naturally reproduce through ordinary believers? The discussion explores church leadership, elders, pastors, house churches, the Great Commission, generosity, church finances, youth ministry, church hurt, and what a genuinely Biblical model of Christian community might look like. The conversation also moves deeply into prayer and spiritual warfare. Zack shares accounts involving serious illness and unexpected recovery, leading to a discussion about faith, prayer, medical diagnoses, the power of words, and what it means to refuse agreement with fear. The group also discusses demonic activity, horror movies, haunted houses, masquerades, identity, religious spirits, and how Christians should evaluate supernatural experiences through Scripture. What do you think the modern church gets right—and what traditions or systems should Christians reconsider?
