Today I chose #45 so I could focus on writing my notes for it. Graciela joined me early on and chose #31.
31 "Of Weapons and Mourning"
Weapons are horrible tools,
The Master avoids weaponizing anything.
Weapons promote fear and separation:
Avoided by those who walk in blessings
Embraced by those who walk in delusion.
If compelled to use them, she uses restraint.
There is no glory in victory if weapons are used,
Her enemy is not evil but human like herself.
How can she see glory in their slaughter?
When the Master is compelled to engage a weapon
She does so gravely, and filled with compassion,
Knowing that this is the first state of her mourning.
45 "Beware of Words with Meaning"
To not define your accomplishments
You will always have patience to spare.
To not acknowledge your fullness
You will always have space to spare.
When we define something as straight, we see how crooked it is.
When we define someone as skilled, we focus on how clumsy they are.
When we call a speech eloquent, we notice the stammering therein.
The Master needn’t define things,
What they are will arise naturally.
By removing herself, and her need to know,
She can see Tao express itself fully.
