We have an academy award-nominated work this week, but the grittiness/shock value of this 1990's film seems to have dissolved over the last 30 years. It does mark John's first collaboration with Stephen Frears, and despite the mundanity of the plot, he utilizes John's drifter charm to lighten things up.
