A) In 2nd Timothy chapter two, verse 17, the Apostle Paul warns his young protégé about messages spreading within the church that increase ungodliness. He likens these messages to cancer, an aggressive disease that continually consumes and destroys. All efforts must be made to stop its incredibly dark effects. My own father succumbed to cancer. It can be distressing even to be associated with someone who has cancer, but compassion rules the day. However, it’s important to note that false teachings in the church are akin to cancer.
B) A key message from these ungodly people is that the resurrection has already passed. In other words, it’s too late. You missed it. Sayonara. Talk to you later. You’re out of luck. Better luck next time. This teaching discards the hope of the faithful. And that’s the problem. It’s a false teaching intended only to discourage. There is no positive movement towards God in this message.
