A Paradigm Shift in our approach to Interceptive Treatment: Part II (Treatment) [Ep.4]

69 min • 2 juni 2023

SUMMARY:

·         In this second part of the 2-part series, we will discuss how to approach the interceptive orthodontic treatment of preadolescent patients who present in the early-mixed dentition.  The following topics will be covered:

o   The history of rapid maxillary expansion (RME).

o   Common issues caused by traditional “expanders” when used in the upper and lower arches.

o   Slow expansion vs. RME.

o   Using braces and wires instead of traditional expansion appliances to expand the maxillary and mandibular arches of preadolescent patients.

o   The impact of slow expansion on tongue space and the pediatric airway.

o   The life-changing impact on your patients when you use interceptive treatment to address the etiology of the dental crowding in young patients.

·         We will also review the treatment of the patient who was presented and diagnosed in Part I, including progress visits of the patient during interceptive treatment, final records, before-and-after comparisons (intra-oral, extra-oral, and airway), and retention.
