Born in 1752, Frances Burney was one of Jane Austen's favourite authors., and a member of the Bluestocking Group.

Austen grew up reading Burney's novels Evelina and Cecilia, and drew inspiration from them for her own works.

And when considering the two authors in greater detail, we can see the satirical standard Burney setwhich jane was to draw so heavily upon.
