How to Have Discernment and Joy

So many people take advantage of me and others. It's hard to know when to help people. How can I be more discerning? Why does Paul list people who won't inherit the kingdom? What if we've committed things on that list? I worry, because I don't seem to experience the Christian joy other believers have.
