Om avsnittet

In 1954, East Bengal held a provincial election that would reshape the political landscape of South Asia. The Muslim League, which had led Pakistan to independence, was routed by a coalition of parties united under the Jukta Front, or United Front. Led by the veteran statesman A. K. Fazlul Huq, the peasant leader Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhashani, and the urban intellectual Huseyn Shaheed Suhrawardy, the United Front won 223 out of 237 seats. The election was a direct response to the 1952 Language Movement and decades of neglect from West Pakistan. This episode explores the campaign, the key figures, the landslide results, and the brief moment of autonomy that followed before the central government imposed governor's rule. It's a story of Bengali political awakening, coalition building, and the fragile hopes of democracy in a divided nation.
