Jerusalem 1860: The First Neighborhood Outside the Walls

In 1860, Jerusalem was still a walled city. But a Jewish philanthropist from London, Moses Montefiore, funded a new neighborhood just outside the Jaffa Gate. Called Mishkenot Sha'ananim, it was a bold experiment in urban planning, public health, and philanthropy.
