The PLO's Secret Backchannel: Oslo and the Quiet Negotiators
Om avsnittet
While the world watched Arafat shake hands with Rabin in 1993, a quiet parallel process was unfolding behind closed doors in Norway. This episode explores the secret negotiations that led to the Oslo Accords, focusing on the unsung diplomats like Ashraf Marwan and the anonymous Israeli engineers who drafted the initial framework in the dead of night. We examine how these backchannels bypassed official diplomatic protocols to create a breakthrough, the immense personal risks taken by those involved, and the immediate aftermath of the announcement at the White House. Through the stories of Yitzhak Rabin’s secret envoy and the Palestinian Liberation Organization’s internal debates, we uncover the human cost of diplomacy and the fragile hope that defined a brief moment of peace before the long struggle resumed.
