African Punk Beyond South Africa: Lagos to Tangier’s Gutter Revolution

From the gritty basement shows of Lagos’s The Ghetto Vipers to Tangier's Chaabi‑punk hybrid La Bande du Rhum, this episode charts how African cities built punk scenes under economic pressure and political unrest. We explore DIY practices—from homemade amps and home studios to mail‑order vinyls—how bands used the internet and community networks for distribution and touring across borders, and how local politics shaped lyrical content. The story reveals that punk’s spirit of self‑made resistance thrives far beyond the well‑known South African movement.
