Crass and the ‘Thatchergate’ Audio Hoax

This episode follows the anarcho‑punk collective Crass and their controversial 1983 project, the Thatchergate tape—a satirical splice of Reagan and Thatcher speeches that sparked media firestorms and government curiosity. We examine how a DIY home studio, mail‑order distribution, fanzine buzz, and the London punk scene converged to make an audio prank that challenged political authority and underscored punk’s power as subversive art.
