Flipside and the DNA of Los Angeles Punk

This episode unpacks the story of Los Angeles’ Flipside Magazine – from its photocopied zine origins to its evolution into a record label and cultural touchstone that chronicled the city's hardcore, skate punk and DIY scene. We trace how Flipside’s flyers, reviews, and mail‑order network wired bands like X, the Adolescents, and Black Flag with clubs such as the Masque and the Cuckoo’s Nest, and examine the publication’s lasting influence on punk journalism, independent distribution and the broader L.A. music ecosystem.
