From Misfits to Samhain: Glenn Danzig's Dark Turn

After the Misfits split in 1983, guitarist‑bassist‑vocalist Glenn Danzig forged a new band—Samhain—that channeled his growing fascination with gothic horror and doom‑heavy riffing. This episode chronicles that transition: the creative motives behind leaving punk’s frantic burst for slower, atmosphere‑laden textures; the DIY recording methods and small‑pressings that defined early Samhain releases; and how this dark chapter set the stage for Danzig’s later work in heavier metal realms. We unpack the people, venues, labels, and scenes that fed the birth of a sound still felt across gothic‑metal and doom circles today.
