How Dischord Records Sparked Washington D.C.’s Pre‑Hardcore DIY Revolution

The episode uncovers Washington D.C.'s late‑70s and early‑80s music scene that pre‑dated hardcore, examining grassroots DIY networks, college‑radio support, and the birth of Dischord Records. We trace how political surroundings, limited venues, fanzines, and a network of all‑ages clubs forged a culture that would later give rise to Minor Threat, Rites of Spring, and Revolution Summer. By digging into rehearsal spaces, tape‑sharing, mail‑order chains, and early releases, the show shows how DC’s underground built the infrastructure that made its hardcore explosion possible.
