Keith Morris Leaves Black Flag: A Catalyst for Los Angeles Punk’s Multiplicity

The episode traces how Keith Morris’ departure from Black Flag in early 1978 sparked the formation of the Circle Jerks, accelerated a burst of new punk outfits across the South Bay, and reshaped L.A.’s DIY scene. It examines the musical clashes that caused the split, the early releases that defined short‑form hardcore, and how those ripples fed later pop‑punk movements.
