Keith Morris Leaves Black Flag – Birth of the Circle Jerks

An in‑depth look at how Keith Morris’s exit from Black Flag in late 1979 set the stage for the formation of the Circle Jerks, the rapid creation of their debut single and EP, and the ripple effects across Southern California hardcore. The episode traces the scene’s DIY infrastructure—rehearsal spaces, all‑ages venues, fanzine circulation, independent labels, and touring logistics—while examining the music, production choices, and internal dynamics that defined early American hardcore.
