Latin American Punk Under Authoritarianism: DIY Music in the 1970s and 80s

This episode traces how punk bands across Latin America— from Los Saicos to Maldita Vecindad, Restos de Nada, Ratos de Porão, Los Violadores, Los Prisioneros, and others — forged music, labels, and underground networks amid economic crises and political censorship. It explores the scene’s DIY infrastructure—record stores, fanzines, cassette trading, and clandestine shows—and how these tools helped punk thrive in hostile environments.
