Minor Threat and the Collapse of an Early Hardcore Phenomenon

This episode charts how Washington D.C.’s ferocious trio, Minor Threat, exploded onto the hardcore scene in 1980, released the landmark “Straight Edge” single that spawned a movement, and dissolved at the height of their influence due to touring exhaustion, creative tensions and personal priorities. We’ll follow Dischord’s DIY model, the band’s rapid releases and all‑ages shows, and how the breakup reshaped D.C. punk and led to projects like Fugazi.
