New York Hardcore and the Lower East Side: Birth of a Brutal Underground

This episode digs into the early 1980s New York hardcore scene that thrived on the Lower East Side, tracing the rise of local clubs like CBGB and Max’s Kansas City, the DIY networks that fed bands such as Youth Gone Mad, The Bronx and 3‑6‑9, and the raw recordings circulating on underground tapes. We chart how street‑level promoters, all‑ages shows, and mail‑order circuits forged a distinct hardcore identity that reverberated across America.
