Portland Punk’s Unseen Pulse: The Wipers, Poison Idea, and Dead Moon

This episode traces Portland’s early punk landscape, charting how Greg Sage’s Wipers, the hardcore force of Poison Idea, and Fred Cole’s Dead Moon built DIY infrastructures—record stores, fanzines, underground touring networks—that shaped the city’s sound and fed the burgeoning grunge movement. The discussion digs into recording practices, label independence, scene dynamics, and the lasting influence these bands left on regional and national punk and alternative rock.
