Portland's Punk Legacy: Wipers, Poison Idea, and the DIY Spirit That Fueled Grunge

This episode chronicles Portland’s underappreciated punk pioneers—the Wipers, Poison Idea, and Dead Moon—exploring their lo‑fi recordings, raw touring ethos, and relentless DIY networks that fed Seattle’s grunge explosion and shaped a distinctive West Coast punk identity. Through archival material, early pressings, and an analysis of the city’s clubs and independent stores we trace how these bands carved out a self‑sustaining ecosystem in a landscape without major label support.
