Post‑Punk Unbound: The Evolution After the Three‑Chord Revolution

From John Lydon's fuzz‑laden riffs in Public Image Ltd to Joy Division’s bleak synth landscapes, this episode traces how post‑punk ripped itself from punk’s three‑chord template. It examines British scenes that merged dub and noise, American offshoots like Red Flag and the no‑wave movement, Germany’s Neue Deutsche Welle, Spain’s La Movida Madrileña, and shows how DIY labels, clubs, fanzines and touring networks rewrote punk’s sonic and business playbook—seeding goth, industrial, shoegaze and early indie rock. The result was a ripple of influence that reshaped underground culture worldwide.
