Sleater‑Kinney’s Rise from Riot Grrrl Roots to Indie‑Rock Powerhouse

This episode follows Sleater‑Kinney’s trajectory from Olympia’s riot‑grrrl scene—starting with DIY cassette demos, K Records releases and a grassroots touring network—to their later work on Kill Rock Stars and Sub Pop. It explores how the band’s feminist lyrics, dual‑guitar attack and tight songwriting maintained punk’s DIY ethos while expanding into the broader indie‑rock landscape, and what that evolution says about gender, independence and influence in late‑‘90s punk. Listeners discover the concrete decisions, recordings and networks that let Sleater‑Kinney stay true to punk core principles even as they grew commercially.
