SST Records and the Expansion of American Underground Music

This episode dives into Greg Ginn’s SST Records, tracing how it grew from a garage press plant into an influential indie network that signed acts ranging from Black Flag to Hüsker Dü. We explore SST’s DIY infrastructure—cheap vinyl, mail‑order catalogs, touring circuits—and its impact on American punk’s sound, scene politics, and the rise of independent labels nationwide.
