This episode dives into the first moments when punk hit mainstream screens—BBC documentaries, MTV premieres, and cable specials—and how that exposure both amplified and tamed a raw underground culture. We trace key broadcasts of British acts like the Sex Pistols and Patti Smith, examine editorial choices that muted politics, and explore how DIY communities countered television’s sanitizing force with underground shows and tape trading.
