The Mekons Refuse to Die: Leeds Punks Who Re‑invented Punk Across Four Decades

This episode traces the long journey of The Mekons from a handful of art‑school students in 1976 Leeds, through Rough Trade’s DIY debut single, into the late 1980s country‑folk turn and beyond. We unpack how their political lyrics, relentless touring network, and self‑released catalogue kept punk alive for forty years, while exploring their influence on later acts and the continuing relevance of their radical DIY ethos.
