The Ohio Iron Curtain of Punk: Cleveland & Akron’s Proto‑Punk Underground

This episode dives into the industrial heartland that produced the first real punk outburst—Cleveland and Akron’s underground scene in the early 1970s, home to Rocket From The Tombs, Pere Ubu, Devo, the Dead Boys and more. We trace how rusted steel yards, art‑school rebels, DIY mail order, basement shows and local fanzines forged a network that would influence post‑punk and hard‑core across the country.
