The Sonics and the Raw Roots of Garage Punk

In this episode we dig into The Sonics, Tacoma’s 1964 garage band whose fuzz‑laden riffs and rebellious attitude prefigured punk rock decades before it exploded. We trace their DIY recording practices, chaotic live shows, and the ripple of influence that reached Black Flag, the Stooges, and even Nirvana’s Kurt Cobain. From cheap tape loops to fanzine flyers, we uncover how The Sonics’ raw sound became a blueprint for punk’s rebellious spirit.
