Decebalus and the Buried Treasure: The Mystery of the Dacian Gold

In this episode, Lucas and Luna explore one of the most enduring mysteries of ancient Dacia: what happened to the legendary treasure of King Decebalus after the Roman conquest in 106 CE. They delve into the story of Decebalus's hidden gold — a vast hoard buried in the river Sargetia, betrayed to the Romans, and the subsequent fate of Dacian wealth. The conversation covers the Roman governor Tiberius Claudius Maximus, who claimed the king's head and treasure; the archaeological evidence (or lack thereof) for the hoard; and the later legends that inspired medieval tales. They also discuss Trajan's Column's depiction of the treasure, the Roman looting of Dacian gold mines, and how the myth of buried Dacian gold persisted into modern times. This episode ties into earlier discussions of the Dacian Wars and Trajan's conquest, but offers a fresh angle on the aftermath and the cultural memory of a lost kingdom.
