Iași Pogrom 1941: Romania's Forgotten Massacre

In June 1941, as Romania joined Nazi Germany's invasion of the Soviet Union, the city of Iași became the site of one of the worst massacres of the Holocaust. Over two days, Romanian soldiers, police, and civilians killed over 13,000 Jews, many executed in the streets or packed onto death trains. In this episode, Lucas and Luna explore the events leading up to the pogrom, the role of Ion Antonescu's regime, the complicity of the Iron Guard, and the aftermath that left the victims long forgotten. We trace the pogrom's place in Romania's wartime history, examining how it fit into the larger genocide and the post-war silence that followed. This is a story of state-sponsored violence, historical amnesia, and the struggle to remember.
