The 1907 Peasant Revolt's Forgotten Leaders and Aftermath

In this episode, Lucas and Luna return to the 1907 Peasants' Revolt, but from a fresh angle: the leaders who were erased from official history, the violent suppression that followed, and how the uprising reshaped Romania's land reform debates. They explore the roles of figures like Ion Dolănescu, a peasant leader executed after the revolt, and the political fallout for Prime Minister Dimitrie Sturdza. The conversation also covers the role of the army under Alexandru Averescu, the massacre at Podu Iloaiei, and how the revolt influenced the agrarian reforms of 1918 and 1921. Lucas digs into the social structure of Țara Românească and Moldavia, the arendași system, and the evgheni tax collectors. Luna asks about the Jewish landowners targeted during the revolt, the response of the Romanian intelligentsia, and the long-term memory of the uprising in Romanian culture. The episode ends with a reflection on why some revolts are remembered and others forgotten.
