The Dacian King Burebista's Forgotten Empire

In this episode, Lucas and Luna explore the rise and fall of Burebista, the Dacian king who united the Getae and Dacian tribes in the 1st century BC, creating a powerful empire stretching from the Black Sea to the Balkans. They discuss his capital at Argedava, the influence of his spiritual advisor Deceneus, the religious cult of Zalmoxis, and how Burebista's alliances with the Greek cities of Histria, Callatis, and Tomis brought wealth and culture to his kingdom. The conversation delves into the Roman threat, Burebista's reaction to Caesar's assassination, and the mysterious fragmentation of his empire after his death. Lucas also touches on the archaeological evidence, including inscriptions from Dionysopolis and the debated location of the sacred mountain Kogaionon. This episode offers a fresh look at a largely forgotten figure who once posed a serious challenge to Rome.
