The Dacian Wars: Trajan's Conquest of Romania's Ancestors
Om avsnittet
Long before the principalities of Wallachia and Moldavia, before the Saxons and the Ottomans, the lands that became Romania were home to the Dacians, a powerful Iron Age kingdom that challenged Rome itself. In this episode, Lucas and Luna delve into the Dacian Wars of 101-106 AD, focusing on King Decebalus, the brilliant but doomed ruler who defied Emperor Trajan. They explore the political and military strategies of both sides, the brutal sieges of Sarmizegetusa Regia, and the campaign's aftermath that saw Dacia transformed into a Roman province. Along the way, they discuss the role of the Danube as a natural frontier, the use of Trajan's Column as propaganda, and the enduring legacy of the Dacian resistance in Romanian national myth. New names and places include Decebalus, Trajan, Sarmizegetusa Regia, the Danube, the Iron Gates, and Tropaeum Traiani.
