The Dacian Wars: Trajan's Two Campaigns

Before Romania was Romania, there was Dacia — a kingdom that defied Rome for over a century. In this episode, Lucas and Luna explore the two brutal wars that Emperor Trajan fought against King Decebalus between 101 and 106 AD. We look at the famous column in Rome that tells the story in stone, the lesser-known second campaign that ended with Dacian resistance crushed, the suicide of Decebalus, and the vast Roman province that followed — complete with new cities, roads, and settlers. We also untangle the legend from the evidence: did the Dacians really use a hidden river to hide their treasure? And what happened to the tens of thousands of Dacians who were enslaved or displaced? From the spectacular mountain fortress of Sarmizegetusa to the final battle at the Iron Gates, this episode reveals the forgotten war that shaped Romania's ancient identity.
