The Real Dracula: Vlad Țepeș Beyond the Vampire Myth
Om avsnittet
In this episode, Lucas and Luna peel back the layers of vampire fiction to explore the historical Vlad Țepeș, the 15th-century Wallachian prince known as Vlad the Impaler. They delve into his upbringing in the Ottoman court, his brutal methods of warfare and justice, and the political turmoil that shaped his reign. The conversation examines the primary sources that immortalized his cruelty, including German pamphlets and Ottoman chronicles, and questions how much of the bloodlust was propaganda. They discuss Vlad's imprisonment in Buda, his mysterious death, and the evolution of his legend into Bram Stoker's Dracula. With references to the Order of the Dragon, the Night Attack at Târgoviște, and the Boyar impalement of 1459, this episode offers a nuanced portrait of a complex ruler.
